This site was developed so that a person with a disability
can conduct a reasonable job search to secure employment or further one’s
career. We have provided these sites in an effort to give some possibilities
of potential sites that could lead to a successful search. As one
becomes more adapt at using this means for career development, the more
success one can expect to achieve. This is not intended to be a full
comprehensive or complete list. However, many of these sites will
lead to others.
Abilities
Unlimited of Jonesboro, Inc. Our program is described
on our Home Page. From many of the services listed, our mission and
some of the descriptions of our organization you should be able to get
a feel if this would be a place you would like to work. We employ
more than 200 people in a variety of situations and many with flexible
hours and locations all over NE AR. Our Home Page will list Employment
Opportunities and when you click on it you will be taken to a site that
will show jobs we have posted as open along with a short description
of each.
Ability
Forum. This Web site and online job center are specifically
designed for persons with disabilities. Ability Forum is under contract
by the U.S. Department o f Education to establish a premier Web site
for people with disabilities that provides educational, social and community
opportunities in an accessible manner. Users and post and search
job openings and resumes in the Job Center and has a resource locator that
will locate services and agencies by state. For employment options
go to Jobs Center and click on Jobs Database and follow the directions
to get to the state in which you are interested. (This site is very
new and still building much of its capacities)
Arkansas
Rehabilitation Services (ARS). This is a state agency
under the Department of Workforce Education dedicated to providing a wide
range of vocational services with the main objective-putting people with
disabilities to work. They employ more than 500 people in professional
and para-professional jobs all over Arkansas. Their web site has
several employment options which you click on Job Listings at their Home
Page.
Services
for the Blind (DSB). The Division of Services for the
Blind is a state agency under the Department of Human Services and has
several positions in central Arkansas and across the state both in the
professional field and for support staff. It has as its overall objective
to assist legally blind people in Arkansas toward the opportunity to live
full and productive lives with dignity and self respect. Programs
are available for all ages and their families to assist them in gaining
the skills and self-confidence necessary to meet the challenges of daily
living. Services are designed to assist the individual to achieve
vocational goals, as well as to live as independently as possible.
Their web site has a listing of Employment Current Vacancies you can access
by clicking on it under Related Information on their Home Page. This
will lead you to another page with employment site options.

Spinal
Cord Commission. The Arkansas Spinal Cord Commission
is a stare agency devoted to meeting the needs of people with spinal cord
disabilities in the state and has several employees scattered over the
State. The spinal cord may be damaged by trauma, infection, tumor,
developmental defect, or degenerative disorders such as multiple sclerosis.
The damage may be complete or incomplete and have to demonstrate three
of the following four medical conditions: loss of motor control; loss of
sensation; loss of normal bladder control; or loss of normal bowel control.
Their Home Page provides any number of sources of information although
it did not have any specific links to employment opportunities.
Developmental
Disabilities Services (DDS). This agency offers a wide
range of services and supports to Arkansans with developmental disabilities
and their families. They employ hundreds of people all over Arkansas.
Its mission statement commits to the principles and practices of normalization,
least restrictive alternatives, affirmation of individuals’ constitutional
rights, provision of quality services, the interdisciplinary service delivery
model, and the positive management of challenging behaviors. Their
Home Page will not provide you with employment options with their agency
but you can access on the side bar under DHS by clicking on DHS Job Announcements.
Arkansas
Career Development Network. This organization (formerly
known as One-Stop) is the state network that provides employment, education
and training programs in a coordinated delivery system assisting citizens
of Arkansas seeking new or better jobs and for employers seeking to build
a competitive workforce. There are several centers scattered across
the State that provides these services and each one should have assistance
for any person with a disability needing services. Go to their Home
Page and click on Northeast Arkansas to get your nearest center to you
in this part of the State or click on Jobseekers on their Home Page to
get a listing of a variety of employment and training opportunities but
not readily available jobs without further searches.
Employment
Security Division (ESD). This state agency has several
different services. It has as its mission to provide its customers
with employment related services that enhance the economic stability of
Arkansas and its citizens. These services are provided to employers,
the workforce and the general public. They have offices all over
Arkansas. Go to their Home Page and click on The Employment Connections
which leads to another list of sites to search for jobs.
Disabled
and Non-Disabled Veterans. Military.com is a great web
site that provides veterans with many options including many under the
Careers Center, Great Civilian Jobs, Join the Military, Education and Scholarships.
Arkansas
Government Jobs. This site gives you several options
to pursue under Job Seekers and allows you to electronically file applications
for employment.
Arkansas’
Job Bank. This site provides a text box under Occupation
that allows you to confine your search to a job title, zip code and miles
from zip code to help identify what is available.
America’s Job Bank. This site is the same format as Arkansas’ Job Bank and by using the text box under Occupation that allows you to narrow your search down by job title, zip code and number of miles from zip code will identify what is available.
Arkansas
Democrat-Gazette. This site when accessed can be clicked
on Democrat-Gazette job openings and then requires registering (free) and
a password to proceed.
CareerWeb.
This site is a very good site to visit. It is easy to use and has
many listings. There is a category search, keyword search, state/city,
or search by employer. Go to Home Page and click on Jobseeker
Center, then you will have to register to continue.
Federal
Jobs. Many informative government data bases are available
at this site. There are a lot of government jobs listed and updated
regularly. It has an easy-to-use format including keyword search
and state search. It provides detailed job information, application
procedures, GS levels/promotion’s potential and pay scales. For job
listings you must go to List FedWorld Databases and scroll down to and
click on “US Gov. Job Announcements”and follow the directions from there.
Federal
Bureau of Prisons Job Listings. This site when accessed
should be clicked on employment which will start your search with general
job requirements and by occupations and will lead to vacancies in certain
occupations and how to apply.
Jonesboro Chamber of Commerce. This Web site provides a good listing of local openings and allows for a search by category or by employer. Go to Home Page and click on either jobs by category or jobs by employer and follow the diections from there.
Monster.com.
This web site provides for an easy-to-use means to locate a job.
You start out as a first time user and leads you to be able to search jobs,
post online resumes and use their career center. It has a lot of
search methods to help you locate the job, category and place you would
like to work. Go to their Home Page and click on first timers start
here and go from there.
Searchshack.
This is a very good site. It is easy to use and has numerous job
listings. There is a category search, keyword search, state/city,
or search. You go to their Home Page and click on jobs and then you
will click on a category and follow directions.
Whatajob.com. This site when accessed requires you to download Macromedia Flash plug in to enjoy the fully animated interactive version, or you can enter the downscaled version which has a lot of options and by clicking on online jobs, then whatajob.com where Real Jobs page appears and enter various information that narrows your search down to a specific area, etc.
