This site is primarily developed to be used by people with disabilities who require some assistance with their career development efforts. These efforts could include:
· finding potential training to prepare for a job or upgrade in a job or other career advancements,
· learning how to use the Internet for web-based searches for career development activities,
· conducting a self-directed search for career development employment options,
· difficulty following-up on leads,
· or, a combination of any of these.
This will require an individual effort and you will
have to register for the service. Presently, we don’t have on-line
registration, so you will have to email: Chris
Paslay or Cheryl
Heskett
and request to be registered for this service.
One of these Master’s level counselors will get you a registration form
and a short questionnaire so as to be able to determine your needs and
proceed with the service. This part of the process is completely
free.
From your registration we will make recommendations to you on how to proceed. We may offer a free referral service to you in order to get you to the appropriate state agency that may be able to help you with your career development needs. If that is not the case, any of the prescribed services which you may be interested in will indicate its required fee. Any previously placed clients of Abilities Unlimited of Jonesboro, Inc. within the last five years will get one free career development search. We have a variety of direct links to sites that will allow us to do an effective career development search. We are, also, a member of the Employer Assistance Referral Network (EARN). This helps to provide a successful job match for qualified individuals by using the EARN nationwide program designed to link providers and employers, thereby increasing employment for people with disabilities.
In addition, we are providing classes in how to use the
Internet to perform web-based career development activities. This
would include preparing your references and building a resume and some
of the basics in what to expect with a new job.
